Dandruff

There are two forms of dandruff: oily and dry. Common practice is to treat dandruff with anti-dandruff shampoos. But did you know that you can use simple effective home remedies? Home remedies may offer complete solutions for controlling dandruff. You should give each remedy at least a week before trying another. Diet plays an important role in the treatment of dandruff. You may wish to gradually adopt a well-balanced diet, with emphasis on raw foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables.

Many people are confused about dandruff. Some may think that dandruff occurs because you shampoo your hair too often. The opposite is true however, especially if your scalp is oily. Oily scalps need to be shampooed often to remove any excess oil. The excess oil may make your dandruff problem even worse. One thing that may trigger dandruff is taking really hot showers. If you have any type of skin problem, you should keep your showers moderate in temperature. Hot water tends to cause the body to dry out or produce more oil to compensate, which are two problems associated with dandruff.

Dandruff is the single most common problem that can occur to everybody. Shedding of skin is a natural phenomenon. The skin of your scalp replenishes every month. The presence of negligible dandruff is inevitable. The problem arises only when the presence of dead cells in the form of flakes suddenly increases. It is only when this becomes excessive that it has to be considered a problem. Well-looked after, clean, healthy hair with the proper acid balance does not have problems with dandruff.

Most common treatments for dandruff is the use of shampoos that contain ingredients that kill, neutralize or reduce the yeast; added with ingredients to change cell growths. Shampoos may contain tars or salicylic acids. Each works in different ways, the tar based shampoos slow cell production, while salicylic acid-based shampoos remove dead skin cells before they clump or form flakes. Ingredients like pyrithione zinc and selenium sulfide reduce cell turnover rates.

Because shampooing is only a temporary solution to dandruff, basically because it only removes or kills the superficial yeast on the surface of the scalp and follicle, but does not affect the oil glands deep in the scalp, the hair must be washed frequently.
